🧮 Step-by-Step Rules for Drawing a Pie Chart
1. Collect and Organize Your Data
Make sure your data categories are mutually exclusive and represent parts of a whole.
Total all values to get the sum.
2. Convert Data to Angles
Each slice of the pie chart corresponds to an angle out of 360°:
Use the formula:
This ensures each sector is proportional to its data value.
3. Draw the Circle and Radius
Use a compass to draw a neat circle.
Mark the center and draw a radius—this will be your starting line for measuring angles.
4. Measure and Draw Each Sector
Use a protractor to measure each angle from the radius.
Draw each sector in sequence, rotating the protractor from the last line drawn.
5. Label and Color
Add labels or a legend to identify each sector.
Use distinct colors or patterns to differentiate categories.
6. Add Title and Key
Give your chart a clear title.
Include a key if labels don’t fit inside the chart.
✅ Pro Tips
Avoid using more than 5–6 slices—too many sectors can make the chart hard to read.
